FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Waiting periods, payment, changing employer, age limits — the most common questions from MEA-based pilots.

Is there any waiting period before I can claim?
No waiting period to join — but the Temporary Loss of Licence benefit becomes effective after the 29th day of confirmed sickness. A written letter suspending your Class 1 medical, issued by your authority or medical department, is required.
How long can I benefit from Temporary Loss of License?
Up to 3 years per case, and multiple times over the life of the policy. See the payout schedule (50% for 3 months, 100% up to 2 years, 75% in the final year).
Can I keep my insurance when I change employer?
Yes. Inform APPN of the change, send your new Class 1 medical and a current salary certificate. Temporary Loss of Licence cover may be adjusted per T&Cs.
How do I pay the premiums?
Credit card (quarterly, half-yearly or yearly) directly to APPN. With a European bank account you can also use SEPA direct debit monthly. Cadets pay annually.
How long can I keep the Loss of License insurance?
Temporary Loss of Licence runs to age 65 (then auto-cancelled). Permanent Loss of Licence runs to 60, extendable to 65 on request.
What's the maximum joining age?
You must subscribe before age 45. Cadet pilots: before age 35.
I'm not employed in the Middle East — can I still join?
Yes, directly with APPN. IFP is the official channel for pilots employed and operating within the Middle East; a different premium table and membership fee may apply elsewhere. Contact APPN International →
What's the "working capital"?
A fully refundable deposit. It's a safety buffer — if a card payment is declined, you stay covered for up to 3 months while the issue is resolved.
Why the € 7 monthly membership fee?
APPN is non-profit and can't take commission — premiums flow directly to the underwriters. The € 7 covers monthly administration only. Cadets are exempt until they obtain their ATPL.
Can I change my guarantees later?
Yes — decrease any time (within 30 days). Increases follow a career-progression rule: typically after employer change or promotion (T&Cs apply). Alteration form available on request.
